Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, is set to embark on an official visit to the State of Qatar on 9–10 April, 2026, the ministry said on Thursday.

“Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Shri Hardeep S Puri, will be on an official visit to the State of Qatar on 9–10 April, 2026″, the statement read.

The development comes against the backdrop of the West Asia conflict — involving the United States, Israel and Iran — which led to mounting concerns over the disruption of global energy supplies following the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

It is pertinent to note that Qatar has formally begun to resume production to export natural gas following the conflict. Qatar was one of the Gulf nations that came under attack as Iran unleashed retaliatory strikes across the region.

Qatar is mobilising engineers and workers to resume production at the world’s biggest liquefied natural gas export plant following the announcement of a ceasefire in the war in West Asia, reported Bloomberg.

However, the improvement in security conditions is allowing limited activity as the facility undergoes necessary maintenance ahead of a planned restart, said the people familiar with the matter.

Earlier, QatarEnergy declared force majeure on several long-term Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) supply contracts following Iranian missile strikes on key facilities at Ras Laffan Industrial City, a key industrial hub located 80 km northeast of Doha.

Jaishankar On UAE Visit

Exernal Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar will visit the UAE on April 11-12 to review the strategic partnership, deliberate on energy security, and regional developments.

The visit follows a temporary ceasefire between the United States, Israel, and Iran, which impacted West Asian stability and global energy markets.

UAE also bore the brunt of the conflict in West Asia, as Tehran launched retaliatory attacks across its military and energy facilities.

Energy Shortage In India

India recently experienced a significant cooking gas (LPG) shortage in the wake of the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. The Centre, meanwhile, assured citizens that the shortage of LPG was primarily due to panic-buying and hoarding.

The government also maintained that there was no actual shortage of cooking gas in the country, urging people to avoid panic.
