A catering vehicle struck a stationary IndiGo aircraft at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport on Tuesday, causing minor damage and triggering a safety review on the ground.
The incident occurred at Bay No. 51 while the aircraft was parked.
Sources said the catering van moved forward suddenly when it was started, leading to a collision with the aircraft’s engine. Since the plane was not in motion at the time, a major accident was averted.
No injuries were reported in the incident, officials said. The extent of the damage is being assessed, and standard safety checks are expected to be carried out before the aircraft is cleared for further operations.
The airline has not issued an official statement so far.
In a separate incident, a Turkish Airlines wide-body aircraft carrying 236 people was forced to make a full emergency landing at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in February after a reported fire in its right engine shortly after departing from Kathmandu.
Airport authorities said all 225 passengers and 11 crew members on board were safe and no injuries were reported. The aircraft was grounded in Kolkata and started undergoing a detailed technical inspection.
The flight, THY-727, operated by Turkish Airlines, was an Airbus A330-300 en route to Istanbul. It departed from Tribhuvan International Airport.
