The Goa Police have arrested a 21-year-old man after a speeding luxury car that he was driving allegedly struck a motorcycle in the upscale locality of Dona Paula in Panaji, leaving a young woman dead and her colleague critically injured.
The accused, identified as Darius Dias, is the son of a Goa-based entrepreneur who runs multiple businesses, including hospitality ventures, a bakery and cafe. According to investigators, Dias was behind the wheel of a high-end Mini Cooper S when the crash occurred late Sunday night.
Goa Crash Occurred Outside Hotel
The victims were employees of the Taj Resort and Convention Centre and were on their way home after work. Diksha Parwadkar, 23, who worked at the hotel’s front desk, is believed to have died instantly. Her colleague, D Arunkumar, who was riding the motorcycle, sustained serious injuries and remains under treatment, Hindustan Times reported.
Police said the impact was so severe that both victims were thrown nearly 50 metres from the point of collision, which took place just outside the hotel entrance—an indication of the car’s high speed at the time. The vehicle involved was reportedly brand new and had been purchased only days earlier.
Officials confirmed that a case has been registered under provisions related to causing death by negligence and rash driving under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act. While initial breathalyser tests did not detect alcohol, blood samples have been sent for further examination.
Parwadkar hailed from a village near the Goa-Karnataka border in the Western Ghats.
Pune Porsche Crash
The incident has once again drawn attention to reckless driving involving luxury vehicles. It echoes the outrage following the Pune Porsche crash, where a speeding sports car allegedly driven by a young accused killed two people, triggering nationwide debate over road safety, accountability, and the handling of high-profile cases involving affluent families.
