NDA track record Maharashtra civic polls win marks historic BJP victory in Mumbai
New Delhi:
NDA track record Maharashtra civic polls has once again come under the spotlight after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) registered a historic victory in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, ending decades-long dominance of the Shiv Sena (UBT) in India’s richest civic body.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked the people of Maharashtra for their overwhelming support, stating that the results reflect public faith in the NDA’s agenda of development, stability, and good governance.

Taking to social media platform X amid celebrations at the BJP office in Mumbai, PM Modi said:
“Thank you Maharashtra. The dynamic people of the state bless the NDA’s agenda of pro-people good governance. The results of various municipal corporation elections indicate that NDA’s bond with the people of Maharashtra has further deepened.”
The Prime Minister added that the NDA’s performance and vision for development had resonated strongly with voters across the state.
“Our track record and vision for development have struck a chord. This is a vote to add momentum to progress and celebrate the glorious culture Maharashtra is associated with,” he said.
NDA track record Maharashtra civic polls reflected in BMC numbers
According to current trends from Mumbai:
BJP is leading in 90 wards
Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena is ahead in 28 wards
Ajit Pawar-led NCP, contesting separately, is leading in only 3 wards
On the opposition side:
Shiv Sena (UBT) is leading in 57 wards
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) in 9 wards
Congress, in alliance with Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), in 15 wards
Others in 8 wards
These numbers confirm that the Shiv Sena (UBT)’s long-standing control over the BMC has ended, marking a political turning point in Mumbai’s civic governance.
NDA track record Maharashtra civic polls ends UBT dominance in Mumbai
The BJP contested 137 seats, while its ally Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) contested 90 seats. Ajit Pawar’s NCP fielded candidates separately on 94 seats.
In contrast:
Shiv Sena (UBT) contested 163 seats
Congress contested 143 seats
MNS fielded 52 candidates
VBA contested 46 seats
Despite a relatively strong showing in some pockets, the opposition failed to retain control of the BMC, which has been the power centre of the Shiv Sena since its inception.
What changed: NDA track record Maharashtra civic polls analysis
The results from Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporations delivered a strong political message. The once-dominant Pawar brand, led by Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar, no longer guarantees electoral success in urban Maharashtra.
Despite tactical coordination between the two NCP factions, voters did not consolidate behind them as expected.
Pune Municipal Corporation
BJP emerged with a clear upper hand
The party either won or took strong leads in a majority of wards
NCP factions failed to convert localized influence into citywide momentum
NDA track record Maharashtra civic polls and Uddhav Thackeray factor
While the BJP and Eknath Shinde made significant inroads, Uddhav Thackeray retained influence among the Marathi Manoos in traditional Sena strongholds.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) managed a respectable performance in Mumbai, but the loss of the BMC is considered a major political blow, as the civic body had been central to the party’s power and financial structure.
Devendra Fadnavis emerges as key architect of NDA track record Maharashtra civic polls success
Much of the credit for the BJP’s sweeping civic victories is being attributed to Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Under his leadership:
The Mahayuti alliance consolidated gains from assembly elections
BJP successfully expanded its urban voter base
Opposition narratives around Marathi identity were neutralized
Political analysts say Fadnavis achieved two major breakthroughs:
He outperformed combined opposition forces, whether Pawar factions or Thackeray-led alliances
He dismantled the Thackeray family’s long-held claim over Marathi votes in Mumbai
NDA track record Maharashtra civic polls signal long-term shift
The results indicate a structural shift in Maharashtra politics, especially in urban areas. Governance, infrastructure development, and political stability appear to have outweighed traditional loyalty-based voting.
For the NDA, the victory strengthens its position ahead of future state and national elections, while for the opposition, it raises urgent questions about leadership, unity, and relevance.
NDA track record Maharashtra civic polls reinforces PM Modi’s governance narrative
With repeated electoral successes across municipal corporations, the NDA’s message of development-first politics continues to resonate with voters.
As PM Modi emphasized, the Maharashtra civic polls are not just a local victory, but a reaffirmation of public trust in the NDA’s broader national vision.
