An assistant sub-inspector has been suspended after he allegedly asked a woman detainee to send her daughter to him for sexual favours. The incident took place in Maharashtra’s Akola district.
According to news agency PTI, the woman had been apprehended in connection with a financial fraud case involving Rs 80 lakh and was kept at the Civil Lines Police Station lockup.
The 54-year-old assistant sub-inspector, Rajesh Jadhav, who was on duty, allegedly misused his position to lure the woman with offers of money and demanded that she send her daughter to him for sexual favours.
Following this, the woman approached senior police officials with a complaint. Later, a video surfaced on social media showing senior police officers confronting and reprimanding the ASI.
District Superintendent of Police Archit Chandak suspended the ASI with immediate effect on Tuesday.
A case has been registered against the accused on charges of outraging a woman’s modesty and other legal provisions.
