PM Modi Urges Schools To Consider Online Classes To Cut Fuel Use

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday once again urged citizens to help reduce India’s fuel consumption amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia, this time asking schools to consider online modes of teaching that became widespread during the Covid-19 pandemic.

After suggesting Covid-era work flexibilities like work-from-home for office employees, Modi urged some schools to make arrangements for online classes as part of efforts to reduce fuel use.

Online learning became common across India and much of the world during the Covid-19 pandemic, when classrooms shifted into homes during lockdowns. Addressing an event in Gujarat’s Vadodara while inaugurating the Sardardham Hostel, Modi suggested schools could explore similar measures again.

“I would also urge some schools to work on arrangements for online classes,” he said.

“West Asia crisis is one of the worst in the decade; just as we overcame COVID-19 pandemic, we will come out of this also,” the Prime Minister assured while addressing the public.

Stressing the role of technology in reducing fuel consumption, he called for wider adoption of virtual meetings and remote work across the public and private sectors.

The Prime Minister made the “clarion call” from Telangana, urging citizens to take collective responsibility for reducing the burden on the country’s resources.

Reiterating the appeal in Vadodara amid geopolitical tensions in West Asia, Modi said India cannot remain “untouched” at a time when the world is facing turbulence caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, economic challenges and the crisis in the region.

“There is a need for all of us to come together and fulfil our responsibility to reduce the burden on the country’s resources. India spends lakhs of crores of rupees in foreign exchange to import many products from abroad. At the same time, the prices of imported goods are soaring, and global supply chains have also been severely disrupted. Just as every drop fills a pot, every small and big effort matters,” he said.
