As Kerala braces for the counting of votes on Monday, political parties across the state have already moved into celebration mode, with workers preparing elaborate feasts of biryani and laddoos even before the verdict is out.

Feasts And Festivities Across Party Camps

In Pandikkad in Malappuram district, Congress and United Democratic Front (UDF) workers have begun preparing biryani for nearly 5,000 people in anticipation of a victory. A large tent has been set up in the area, where food will be distributed as part of the celebrations.

Party workers said 16 large vessels have been arranged for cooking, each using around 40 kg of rice. Apart from food, cultural programmes are also planned to mark what they expect to be a significant political win.

“We will celebrate the end of 10 years of LDF rule. We welcome everyone, including CPI(M) workers,” a Congress worker said, adding that preparations are in full swing.

Local leaders also expressed confidence that the UDF would maintain its stronghold in Malappuram.

At Indira Bhavan, the headquarters of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), a large pandal has been erected ahead of the results. Party leaders have ordered sweets for distribution and arranged LED screens and seating for leaders to watch the counting process together.

Congress leader Manakkad Suresh said the party expects a clear majority. “By 12 noon on Monday, the UDF will secure a clear majority and win the election,” he said, adding that all senior leaders have been invited for the occasion.

NDA Also Prepares For Celebration Mood

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is also preparing for celebrations in Kochi, with large quantities of laddoos already ordered. Though the alliance does not currently hold any seats in the Kerala Assembly, party workers are hopeful of opening their account this time.

Party cadres have also prepared placards featuring candidates they expect to win in key constituencies such as Nemom, Kazhakootam, Manjeshwar, Palakkad and Thiruvalla. Leaders said they believe voters are looking for change in the state’s political landscape.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has completed preparations for counting across 140 centres in 43 locations. More than 15,000 personnel have been deployed, with counting scheduled to begin at 8 am on Monday under tight security.

With exit polls indicating a close contest between the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the UDF, and the NDA aiming to expand its presence, Kerala now awaits a decisive verdict.
