What the LPG DAC number is, how you receive it, and why it is now key to getting your cylinder without delays.

As concerns over global energy flows rise amid the West Asia crisis, the government has sought to reassure households that LPG supply remains stable while strengthening delivery systems such as the Delivery Authentication Code (DAC), now covering nearly 92% of consumers.
According to Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary at the Petroleum Ministry, domestic LPG supply is normal with no shortage. She said measures including higher domestic production, streamlined booking systems and expanded DAC coverage are aimed at ensuring “reliable, transparent and hassle-free access” for households. She was speaking at an inter-ministerial press briefing on Monday.
The push comes weeks after a technical glitch in the DAC system disrupted deliveries. A March 2026 report by the Times of India said many consumers failed to receive cylinders despite booking and payment due to non-receipt of the authentication code. The issue stemmed from a design limitation, where the DAC was sent only to the registered mobile number, regardless of the device used for booking.
Oil marketing companies have since addressed the issue by enabling DAC delivery via WhatsApp or email to the device used for booking.
The DAC remains central to LPG delivery. It is a one-time code that must be shared with the delivery agent at the time of handover. Earlier, issues such as full SMS inboxes or outdated contact details often led to failed deliveries, forcing distributors to return undelivered cylinders.
How To Get Your LPG DAC Number (Step-By-Step Guide)
Step 1: Book your LPG cylinder
You can book a refill through:
- Your gas agency’s mobile app
- IVRS call or SMS
- Online via your distributor’s website
Step 2: Wait for the DAC message
Once the booking is confirmed, a Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) is generated. You will receive it via:
- SMS (on registered mobile number)
- WhatsApp or email (on the device used for booking, under the new system)
The DAC is a one-time code (OTP-like). It is required only at the time of delivery. Do not share it with anyone except the delivery agent
Step 4: Share DAC at the time of delivery
- When the delivery person arrives, provide the DAC
- The cylinder will be handed over only after verification
Step 5: No DAC, no delivery
- Delivery will not be completed without a valid DAC
- This rule is mandatory to prevent misuse or diversion
What If You Don’t Receive The DAC?
- Check SMS, WhatsApp, and email inbox.
- Ensure your registered mobile number is active.
- Clear inbox if storage is full.
- Contact your distributor if the code is still not received.
Why DAC Is Important
- Ensures cylinder reaches the correct household
- Prevents diversion to commercial markets
- Reduces fraud and duplicate deliveries
- Improves transparency in LPG distribution
- Earlier: DAC was sent only to registered mobile number
- Now: DAC is also sent to the device used for booking (via WhatsApp/email)
This reduces failed deliveries due to inactive or inaccessible numbers
