A 19-year-old man, identified as Ayan Ahmed Tanveer Ahmed, also known as Mohammad Ayaz, has been arrested in Amravati, Maharashtra for allegedly exploiting minor girls and recording obscene videos. Police acted after a complaint by BJP MP Anil Bonde. The accused, a resident of Paratwada, was produced before a court and remanded to police custody for seven days, later extended till April 21.

Allegations and modus operandi

According to police, the accused targeted girls through WhatsApp and Snapchat groups. He allegedly gained their trust, lured them into relationships, and took some victims to Mumbai and Pune. Investigators said he filmed obscene videos without consent and later used them to blackmail the victims and force them into prostitution. Over 350 such videos are suspected, while claims suggest around 180 girls were targeted.

Investigation underway

Police have seized the accused’s mobile phone and other devices. Forensic experts are working to recover deleted data, as officials believe key evidence may have been erased. Cyber Cell teams are also examining videos shared online. Authorities are probing whether the accused acted alone or with others, and if a larger network is involved.

Victims and public response

So far, police have confirmed seven victims, though more are expected to come forward. The case came to light after objectionable videos began circulating on social media. The incident has triggered protests in Paratwada and Achalpur, with residents demanding strict action. Police have urged victims to report complaints and assured confidentiality and support.

The case has taken a political turn, with allegations of links to All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, led by Asaduddin Owaisi. Some BJP leaders claimed the accused had connections with the party, while a local AIMIM representative said he is no longer associated with it.

Leaders have called for a detailed investigation, including a Special Investigation Team. Police said the probe is ongoing, with further findings expected as digital evidence is analysed and more statements are recorded.
