The Indian Embassy in Washington is set to organise a special exhibition on Capitol Hill later this month, focusing on the theme, “The Human Cost of Terrorism.”

The exhibition aims to commemorate the victims of various terror attacks linked to Pakistan, while also highlighting what officials describe as a long history of cross-border terrorism impacting India and other countries.

According to sources, the initiative is intended to raise global awareness about the impact of terrorism and reinforce India’s position on the issue. Similar exhibitions have previously been organised by Indian missions in other countries, including Saudi Arabia.

The event is also expected to reiterate India’s message of zero tolerance towards terrorism and underline its ongoing efforts to counter what it calls a global menace.

The exhibition will be held around the first anniversary of the Pahalgam terrorist attack, which took place on April 22, in which 26 people were killed. The attackers managed to escape from the site, where no police or security personnel were present at the time.

In response, India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ on May 7, targeting nine terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK). Pakistan retaliated the following day with strikes on Indian cities and military installations.

Over the next four days, India carried out attacks on Pakistani airbases, air defence systems, and other military targets. The hostilities ended on May 10 after Pakistan sought a ceasefire.

Among the sites targeted by India were the headquarters of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), which was held responsible for the Pahalgam attack, and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), which had earlier claimed responsibility for the 2019 Pulwama bombing that killed 49 paramilitary personnel.

In July 2025, Union Home Minister Amit Shah informed Parliament that three terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack had been killed by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. He identified them as Suleman alias Faizal, Afghani, and Jibran.

“While Suleman was an A‑category commander of the Lashkar‑e‑Taiba, Afghani was also an A‑category Lashkar‑e‑Taiba terrorist, and Jibran too was a notorious and wanted terrorist. All these three terrorists involved in the killing of our citizens at Baisaran Valley in Pahalgam have now been eliminated,” said Shah.
