Janata Dal (United) workers have put up posters across Patna projecting Nishant Kumar, son of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, as the “future Chief Minister of Bihar”.
The posters, reportedly put up early Sunday morning by supporters identifying themselves as “Nitish sevaks“, call on Nishant Kumar to step into active politics and assume a leadership role.
One of the posters carried a message in Hindi stating, “We do not need a bulldozer, nor riots-unrest in Bihar. We need loknayak. It is time for him to come out of the shadow. We need youth leader Nishant Kumar.”
The posters also featured images of several party leaders along with messaging pitching him as the next leader of the state.
The messaging also sought to contrast governance priorities, with the line asserting that the state does not need “bulldozer” politics or unrest, but rather leadership rooted in the ideals of a “loknayak”.
The development signals internal sentiment among certain JD(U) workers who appear keen to see continuity in leadership through Nitish Kumar’s family, even as the party navigates a changing political landscape.
SPECULATION OVER NEXT CHIEF MINISTER
The posters have surfaced amid speculation over who will lead Bihar next.
Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary visited Nitish Kumar’s residence in Patna on Sunday as the state awaits clarity on its future leadership.
While no official announcement has been made, there is speculation that the next Chief Minister could be from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
However, disagreement has reportedly continued within the JD(U), particularly after Nitish Kumar’s move to the Rajya Sabha.
Some party members have instead demanded that Nishant Kumar take up the mantle of leadership.
On Sunday morning, JD(U) workers put up posters around Patna calling for Nishant Kumar to be the “future Chief Minister of Bihar”, echoing demands from supporters seeking a generational transition within the party.
NITISH KUMAR MOVES TO RAJYA SABHA
Nitish Kumar took oath as a Rajya Sabha MP on April 10, marking the fulfilment of his long-stated desire to serve in every legislative house in India, the Bihar Assembly, Bihar Legislative Council, Lok Sabha and now the Rajya Sabha.
His move to the Upper House is seen as a significant political development that could reshape Bihar’s power dynamics.
Kumar’s shift effectively hands the reins of the Bihar government over to the BJP, marking a structural shift within the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ahead of future elections.
On March 28, supporters appealed to Nitish Kumar not to step down as Chief Minister.
