A 26-year-old woman in UP’s Ayodhya allegedly killed her husband and then died by suicide by jumping in front of a train. Couple’s 22-day-old infant also died later during treatment.
According to a report by PTI, the incident took place on Friday morning following a domestic dispute between Sanju and her husband Shiva (27). In a fit of rage, Sanju allegedly hit Shiva on the head with a hammer, killing him on the spot.
In an apparent attempt to conceal the crime, she reportedly locked her husband’s body and their new-born child inside a room before going to the Devrakot railway track, where she jumped in front of a train and died, officials said.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) Balwant Chaudhary stated that police reached the railway track after receiving information about the incident. Once the woman was identified as Sanju, officers went to her home, where they found Shiva’s body and the infant, who was rushed for treatment but later died.
A suicide note was recovered from Sanju, in which she levelled allegations of harassment against her husband and in-laws, Chaudhary said.
“No one had imagined that this marriage, which took place just one year ago, would meet such a horrifying end,” Roshan Lal, a resident of the village, told PTI.
Chaudhary added that after post-mortem examinations were conducted, the family cremated the bodies. He said a thorough investigation into the case is underway.
