Puducherry witnessed a landmark moment in its electoral history on Thursday, recording its highest-ever voter turnout in Assembly elections. According to the officials, the Union Territory registered a record polling percentage of 89.87, the highest since 1964.

The official described the turnout as тАЬhistoric”, noting that such a high level of participation has not been seen since the first Assembly election was held after PuducherryтАЩs merger with India following Independence. The record turnout is being viewed as a strong indicator of public engagement in the democratic process in the Union Territory.

Among all 30 Assembly constituencies, Mannadipet, Thirubuvanai, Ossudu and Mangalam stood out for consistently recording some of the highest polling percentages. These regions have traditionally shown strong voter participation, and the 2026 elections continued that trend, reflecting active political engagement among rural and semi-urban voters.

According to official data, Mannadipet and Ossudu (SC) once again recorded high turnout levels, driven by competitive multi-cornered contests and strong mobilisation by major political parties. Similarly, Thirubuvanai (SC) witnessed robust participation, with voters turning out in large numbers across polling booths from the early morning hours.

The Assembly polls held in Puducherry in 1974 recorded 85.33 per cent turnout, while the elections held in 2006 and 2011 recorded 85.29 per cent and 85.57 per cent turnout, respectively.
