A woman has filed a criminal complaint in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district against her son after he allegedly raped his cousin, resulting in pregnancy, police said on Tuesday.

The incident reportedly took place in a village under the jurisdiction of the Bhitauli Police Station.

Police said the victim had been staying at her paternal aunt’s home since childhood following the death of her mother. Her father had a history of “bad habits”. She was being raised by her aunt.

According to a report by India Today, the accused allegedly lured the girl into a physical relationship under false pretenses. The incident was revealed when the girl discovered she was pregnant and informed her aunt.

After receiving information, the aunt filed a criminal complaint against the accused, her son.

“Based on the complaint received, a case has been registered against the accused,” a police official said, adding that a search has been initiated for the accused who has been absconding since the revelation.
