In a significant move, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday removed Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha from the post of Deputy Leader in the Upper House, indicating signs of an internal rift within the party. AAP MP Ashok Mittal has been appointed to serve as the party’s new Deputy Leader in Parliament.

Hours after the move, the Rajya Sabha MP issued a veiled response by sharing a compilation of his arguments and interventions in Rajya Sabha.

The three-minute video featured the 37-year-old leader raising concerns of wide range of issues, from air pollution and rising airfares to gig workers’ rights and the 28-day validity of mobile prepaid plans, among others.

The video consists of a series of short clips drawn from Chadha’s recent speeches in the Rajya Sabha. They show him raising issues that affect ordinary citizens and the wider economy. One segment covers the rules governing the expiry of mobile data packages. Another focuses on the working conditions of gig workers employed by quick-commerce platforms.

The Rajya Sabha MP did not caption the video, but just used a nazar amulet emoji. The nazar amulet is a Mediterranean talisman and some believe that it protects against the “evil eye” and absorbs negative energy.

Chadha had often made headlines for raising issues concerning common masses and his Parliament address videos have often gone viral. In recent times, Chadha has largely distanced himself from AAP’s agenda or leaders since the party’s defeat in the Delhi elections 2025, focusing on public interest issues like his paid paternity leave and high food costs at airports.

AAP Removes Chadha From Deputy Leader’s Post

The Arvind Kejriwal-led party submitted an official letter to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat informing about the decision to remove Chadha as the party’s deputy leader. The party has also requested that Raghav Chadha should not be allocated time to speak in Parliament. The party has 10 members in the Rajya Sabha, including seven from Punjab and three from Delhi.

His silence on core AAP issues had sparked exit rumours, particularly after he was left out from the list of the party’s star campaigners for Assam.

However, the Aam Aadmi Party has not officially stated the reason behind this decision. Reports suggest that the move may have been taken over allegations of indiscipline and not adhering to the party line. Notably, Chadha had remained silent over Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia’s recent discharge in connection with the liquor excise policy-linked money laundering case.
