In a significant counter-terror operation, the Delhi Police Special Cell uncovered a suspected plot linked to the Pakistan-based terror group, Lashkar-e-Taiba, following the arrest of a suspected terrorist.
The accused, identified as Shabbir Ahmed Lone, during the interrogation revealed alarming details about surveillance activities, including reconnaissance of major religious and crowded locations in the capital.
Among the sites reportedly targeted were the Kalkaji Temple, Lotus Temple, and Chhatarpur Temple. Investigators believe Lone recorded videos of these locations and shared them with handlers based in Pakistan, sources informed.
Security agencies are also concerned about reconnaissance conducted in and around Connaught Place, one of Delhi’s busiest commercial districts, suggesting a broader plan to target crowded civilian areas.
Further revelations during questioning point to the involvement of Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), in coordination with Lashkar operatives. Sources indicate efforts are underway to establish a new terror outfit in Bangladesh, on the lines of The Resistance Front, raising regional security concerns.
Authorities have intensified surveillance and security measures across sensitive locations in Delhi.
Investigations remain ongoing as agencies work to dismantle the network and prevent any potential threats.
